Recently we have seen an increase in theft from rural properties with fuel and farm bikes the major target. Owen McCabe, one of our Farm Insurance experts has put together a checklist to help safeguard your farm:
- Fit fuel tanks with good padlocks that cannot be cut by bolt cutters
- Lock workshops and motorbikes up securely
- Install sensors with sirens and/or alerts to your mobile phone
- Floodlight the area
- Join up with other people in the neighbourhood so that information can be shared about any suspicious activity
- Be vigilant with suspicious vehicles or callers and record plate numbers with the date and time of event
- Call the police with suspicious behaviour or if you feel unsafe
